Flight Replicas C-47 AI Formation.
support@flight-replicas.com

Welcome to your very own WWII C-47 Skytrain formation, consisting in this case of 36 C-47's. The shape and scale of the formation is as per formation size requirements at the time, although individual missions and tactical evolution dictated changes over time. The C-47's themselves are low poly, but are accurate in shape. The entire formation should have very little impact on framerates, if any.

The formation itself is actually only one aircraft, as far as FSX is concerned, as it is really only one model that looks like many aircraft. It is designed to be flown on a long straight course, with no take off or landings. The formation can be flown by hand from the "VC" if desired, including taking off and landing (highly unrealistic!) or to place it in a specific location using the FSX slew command. To hand fly the formation, just select it from the aircraft selection menu.

The idea behind the formation is to be able to put a realistically sized group of C-47's into the air, so that you can use it to practice your own formation flying, practice flying escort missions, or get a feel for what an enemy pilot would have encountered during a combat mission.

There is a paintkit included, but in order to save framerates and keep things simple, every aircraft will have the same paint scheme.

Installation:

Just place the folder "Douglas C-47 ai Series" into your "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes" folder. The formation will then show up in the aircraft selection menu within FSX.

To use:

There are many ways to use the formation, but here are four methods:

1. Write an Ai flight plan, so that the formation will fly a specific route. Entire WWII missions can be flown this way.

2. Use FormationSetup, created by Jerry Beckwith, which can be found at http://www.mudpond.org/ . This is a free download, easy to set up, and you can be flying formation in minutes, (you'll be limited to a maximum of 5000', but it doesn't feel low).

3. Use something like FS Recorder, available at http://www.fs-recorder.net/ . As the website says, "it allows recording and playback of flights, similar as the instant replay and video recorder built into FS, but with a lot more features. The recorded flights can be played back either using the user's aircraft or as AI traffic, which allows you to fly formations with yourself."

4. Set up the formation as a tanker in TACPAK (http://www.vrsimulations.com/tacpack.htm). The formation can then be spawned anywhere.
